My Ten-Year Challenge!

Here’s a throwback of ME 10 years ago! Wow, I can’t believe ten years have passed already. Last month was my birthday and I felt like the past ten years of my life was all a blur. Now, I a married woman with three children, huge plant lover, blogger/vlogger and 20 lbs. heavier! 😉

Alright, let’s talk about, do I have any regrets from my past?

Absolutely! I wish I started my blog a long time ago. My blog is almost 2 years old now. If I started it 10 years ago, I would have been able to talk/write about exciting and crazy topics, as it was happening; such as, dating scene in LA, being in a relationship to marriage, decision to have kids, birth experience etc.

I wish I didn’t get involved in businesses that are not worthy and pyramid schemes I got fooled into joining. Although, if I didn’t make mistakes then I wouldn’t have learned my lesson leading me to the right path. Now, I’m more aware, mature and know what I really want in life. I would love to accomplish more things in this world. Things that matter like helping and inspiring people. It’s the best feeling in the world that I can share my thoughts and experiences with you.

By the way, I’m currently taking pre-nursing classes and also volunteering in a hospital. It’s tough to juggle school, family, blog and hospital shifts, but I will keep doing blog post as much as I can.

Cheers to many more years of life together!

xoxo, Arianne 🙂

Team Davis at the Echo Park Community Christmas Parade

My daughter Scarlett had a Christmas parade today around 10am. We had to wake up early and didn’t have time to get my coffee. This is her first parade ever so we didn’t really know what to expect. The street Sunset boulevard was closed due to the parade all the way to Echo Park Avenue. I feel like we walked miles and miles away. If I only knew that I will be doing some massive cardio exercise today, I definitely would have worn my comfortable tennis shoes. Anyway, there were tons of people, who watched the parade. It was amazing! It was really fun to see the community gathered together to celebrate the holidays.

Living in a big city such as Los Angeles, makes me feel like there’s no culture here compare to where I grew up. Los Angeles is a city with millions of people from different parts of the world; different religion, different ethnic backgrounds and different languages. This can make a person feel disconnected from the entire community. However, the parade today made me feel like I’m part of a community now. I’m getting to know other parents and Scarlett’s classmates and teachers. Watch our VLog below to see our adventure for today 😉

Our Thanksgiving Celebration

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day! My family and I enjoyed each other’s company drinking wine and over-eating. Lately, I’ve been feeling down because of the wildfires

in California. It’s like I can feel the pain of all the families affected by the fires. It’s more frustrating because there’s nothing we can do to stop all the fires. I really appreciate my family now more

than ever and very thankful that I get to spend quality time with them.

What are you thankful for? 🙂

Living in Fear?

Today is the perfect day for a birthday party. The weather couldn’t be better here in Elysian Park, Los Angeles. Scarlett’s classmate Yair turned 7 years old today. The cake taste like heaven and the bouncy house is such a big hit. Everyone is so happy.

As I look at my family through my camera lens, I can’t stop but to think of our safety. Mass shootings in this country is so common now a days. It can happen anywhere to anybody. How do you protect your family from all these danger? How did we end up being in this situation, where we live in fear?

tell your kids the truth

Growing up in the Philippines made me a strong person. I have seen some horrific things a kid should never have to see. Right around 12 years old through high-school, I had to commute to school. Public transportation in Manila is no joke. It’s very crowded, polluted and yes, it rains a lot there as well. I have a memory of me coming home from school riding a tricycle; It was a sunny day, my ride was moving really slow as it enters our gated community. Then, I saw bunch of people staring at something. My tricycle came closer to the scene and I saw a dead body laying in a puddle of blood. The person was shot by our security guard for stealing. (sorry for the graphic detail)

Anyways, that was just one of the bad things I’ve experienced as a kid. There were other things I’ve seen that made me realized life is no fairy tale. I grew up not being a scared kid, instead I was more aware of my surroundings type of kid.

Here in the USA our kids are more innocent. They go to school and come back home after school. They don’t commute to school or left alone with no adult supervision, which is how we keep them safe. However, our kids live in a bubble, where they don’t get to see what is really happening outside of their world.

Let your kids watch the news with you. Explain to them that all the things they see in the news are really happening. I find it more effective when I compare humans and animals. Here are my exact words to my kids;

“Animals live in the wild and get eaten or killed by bigger animals everyday. They always have to find ways to protect themselves to survive. It is the same thing with human beings. We live in a world, where there are bad and good people everywhere. We have to protect ourselves from bad people by staying away from them.”

what to do when an active shooter shows up

Planning is the key. Always be ready. Don’t be a “this will never happen to me” type of person. I tell my kids to find cover, look for the nearest exit away from the shooter and run as fast as possible.

We assess the place, wherever we go. Where is the exit? Where is the best place to be seating, if an active shooter shows up?

keep living life

Life is beautiful. The sky is beautiful. Your family is beautiful. I can’t express enough the good things we have in this world. While there are bad elements out there, there are more good in this world than bad.

what we can do

Fight for change. We can get back that feeling of safety in our communities by advocating for common-sense gun legislation.  We need to demand policy that will keep everyone’s kids and all of us safe. Join organizations fighting gun violence.

Organic Skincare Products for Babies

My babies are so precious to me. There are no words to describe how much I love them. Their skin is very delicate, which is why I want to nurture it the best way I could. Most baby skin care products in the market have harsh and toxic ingredients. These toxins are harmful to your baby’s sensitive skin and immune system.

I stumbled upon the blog www.hugyourskin.com, while doing my research about baby skin care.  I found the following statement so alarming;

According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), “infants up to age 2 are, on average, 10 times more vulnerable to carcinogenic chemicals than adults, and from age 2 to 15 they are 3 times more vulnerable to carcinogens than adults. Before the age of 2 babies have accumulated 50% of their life-time cancer risk.”

No wonder I hear stories about kids having cancer at a very early age. We live in a very toxic world. It is up to us, parents, to protect our young ones as much as possible.

why use organic products?

Baby’s skin is not the same as adult skin. Our skin’s protective barrier is fully developed, while our baby’s are not. Baby’s skin is thinner than adults, which makes it weaker and more sensitive. That means that if you use products with added perfumes or fragrances and harsh chemicals, it will be absorbed into the baby’s bloodstream very quickly. Moreover, their skin will become irritated.

what ingredients to avoid?

Avoid ingredients such as mineral oil, nitrosamines, formaldehyde, parabens, talc, sodium lauryl sulfate, propylene glycol, 1,4-dioxane and fragrance. These ingredients, present in most over-the-counter products, are harmful to your baby.

Instead look for organic, chemical free, no sulfates, gluten-free, vegan, raw, gmo free, biodegradable and formulated food grade ingredients. This research leads me to recommend baby skin care products by Nature’s Paradise.

Black and White Summer Outfit

DETAILS | BLACK CROP TOP | CHECKERED BLACK AND WHITE PANTS | FLOWER NECKLACE | BLACK SHOES

You will only live once. So why not have fun with a black-and-white outfit? I love this black crop top. It is perfect for Summer and is so unique and sexy! How about these checkered pants? It was love at first sight when I saw them. It was on sale too. You’ll be surprised how many awesome deals you can find on Melrose Avenue in LA. This outfit reminds me of Janet Jackson’s rocking clothes in the “Scream” music video with Michael Jackson.

I am so excited for Summer to come because I’m sick of the cold. The weather in LA has been very unpredictable lately. I can’t wait to get my tan on.

Springtime at Underwood Family Farms

It was a pleasant experience for both Clodagh and I when we went to Underwood Family Farms. It is located one hour away from Los Angeles and the drive was not bad at all. We left LA around 8:30 in the morning to avoid traffic. It was Clodagh’s first school field trip and she was very excited to go. I was not feeling well because of a cold, but still managed to make the trip with her. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world! We got to spend quality one-on-one time with each other. This is very rare for us as I have two other kids.

THINGS TO DO WITH KIDS AT UNDERWOOD FAMILY FARMS

Picking strawberries can be so much fun – Underwood Farm is a wonderful place for families to go to during Spring. It is the perfect weather to be outdoors. Make sure to wear your boots because it can be muddy there. You are going to the farm, so dress like a farmer. We had so much fun picking strawberries. Nothing is more precious than seeing my daughter picking fruits in a field full of strawberries. She likes the little ones because she thinks they are baby strawberries. Moreover, freshly picked strawberries taste so much sweeter than the ones from a store. Clodagh now understands where fruits and vegetables come from. I think she appreciates the value of fruits and vegetables a lot more now.

Plenty of playground for kids to run around – Parents love seeing their kids go wild on the playground. However, it can be chaotic when it gets too crowded. You have a harder time keeping an eye on the little munchkins. Luckily, Underwood Farms has more than one playground, so there is plenty of space for parents to sit and for children to play. We went on a weekday, so it was less crowded than usual, which is a plus.

Watch, touch and feed farm animals – One thing kids love is seeing real animals on a farm. The look of Clodagh’s face was unforgettable when she saw chickens walking around the playground. She was able to feed them, along with goats, horses and pigs as well. Make sure to bring quarters for purchasing animal food to avoid temper tantrums.

Who doesn’t like pony rides? – My daughter loves pony rides. She was afraid of it before, but now she’s 4 years old. She can’t stop smiling and feeling ecstatic every time she rides a pony. You will need to purchase tickets to ride the ponies. Tickets are available at the ticket booth located at the farm entrance.

The Bumble Bee ride might be the most relaxing experience at the farm – Parents and kids love the Bumble Bee ride because it is the longest of all the rides. You circle around the entire farm while looking at fantastic views of the crop fields and mountains beyond. It can be quite bumpy though, but it is still my favorite ride.

There are so many fun things to do at the Underwood Farm, we didn’t have time to get to them all. Being there in Springtime is definitely special. It is very relaxing and fun. I had a beautiful experience with my daughter. We also like coming here in Fall to pick our pumpkins for Halloween. Sometimes getting out of the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, is what is needed (as parents) to spend quality time with our kids.

What is it about floral patterns that I love so much? Maybe because flowers symbolize new beginnings. Spring time is definitely here and wearing this outfit makes me feel renewed.

|DETAILS | BLACK SANDALS | PINEAPPLE DRESS |

Ahhh… dreaming of the tropics! Pineapple, pineapple dress and the most comfortable sandals makes me feel like home again. My hometown is Manila, Philippines and the weather there definitely requires breathable clothing. I may not be in the tropics, but wearing these clothes makes me feel like a tropical girl in the city.

How awesome are these platform sandals? They make my feet feeling bare, at ease and relieved from high heels. Moreover, I like an extra boost of height without having to wear stiletto heels, which is never comfortable. I have different pairs of platform sandals, but this one is definitely more universal. You can wear it with casual or semi formal outfits. Enjoy the warm season!
